Slow the Pace, Share the Space
New Decals!
The Pace Car initiative is paving the way for a safer environment for all local road users including motorists, cyclist and pedestrian’s throughout the Whangarei Region.
To make sure the Pace Car decal is compliant we have re-designed our Pace Car decals to better fit the NZTA requirements. This is due to requirements being that anything stuck upon back windscreens needs to be within 100mm from the edge of the windscreen.
The diagram below shows the the positioning of objects on windescreens to fit NZTA standards:

The concept is simple, when vehicles travel at the speed limit, there is an increased awareness of the general streetscape. Not only do Pace Car drivers set the example by driving to the speed limit, they literally set the pace for other vehicles behind them effectively becoming “Mobile Speed Bumps”. The flow on effect from this is people feel safer walking and cycling for health, fitness, recreation and transport. When there are increased opportunities for positive interactions between community members, there is increased personal safety, improved mental health (due to reduced isolation) and an increased sense of community cohesion and character.
